VMI Identity Standards Manual

This manual includes VMI's logo, colors, and additional branding marks and graphics. Shortly, it will also offer templates for various official communication and presentation materials. The manual consists of an integrated system of graphic elements, including:

  • Logo, lettermark, crest and seal
  • Color palette
  • Fonts

Editorial Guidance

Editorial Style Guide

This guide establishes a “house” editorial style for the Institute.  The style guide supplements and modifies the Associated Press Style Book and Briefing on Media Law. It provides guidance concerning the preparation of the text for documents intended for external audiences.  It is not intended to specify the editorial style for internal communications and administrative correspondence. This memorandum of instruction sets guidance for all Institute offices and departments in the development of publications for external audiences.

Trademark and Licensing Guidance

General Order 42, Institute Identity Standards Policy

General Order 42 establishes the Institute’s visual identity process and trademark licensing program.  This guide includes licensing VMI marks for commercial and non-commercial use by non-VMI entities.

No entity, internal or external to VMI, may use or alter marks, brands, or logos unless given specific authorization. Exceptions to standards enumerated in this manual will be considered on a case-by-case basis and are not approved unless explicitly stated when authorization is given. The Institute reserves the right to reject delivery of materials containing the unauthorized or incorrect use of the enclosed guidelines.
