VMI Welcomes New Leaders

LEXINGTON, Va., Sept. 9, 2022—The Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of two leaders to mission-critical roles at VMI.

Dr. Shannon Eskam will serve as VMI’s director of financial aid. VMI will benefit greatly from Eskam’s wealth of experience in the areas of financial aid, student affairs, and finance. Most recently, she served as the director of financial aid at Casper College in Wyoming where she also served as a deputy Title IX coordinator, enrollment services co-coordinator, and the school’s Veterans Affairs certifying official. Eskam earned her doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Wyoming. She also holds a master’s degree in organizational management from Chadron State College and a bachelor’s in communication from the University of Wyoming.

Mr. Joseph Hagy will lead the VMI Office of Admissions as its next director. Hagy brings a strong record of leadership experience to the Institute having served as Mountain Gateway Community College’s director of student services overseeing admissions, recruitment, financial aid, veterans’ services, and academic advising among other areas. Previous roles at Mountain Gateway included retention coordinator and dual enrollment coordinator. He has also served as executive director of the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation. Hagy teaches student development and organizational behavior classes as an adjunct instructor at Mountain Gateway. He holds a master’s degree in executive leadership from Liberty University and a bachelor’s degree from Longwood University.

Both Eskam and Hagy will begin their new roles on September 26. VMI is excited for their leadership and looks forward to their contributions to recruit and retain the next generation of qualified cadets.
