Marshall Foundation Welcomes Guest Author

LEXINGTON, Va., Oct. 13, 2022—The George C. Marshall Foundation will host author Robert O’Connell for a lecture on his new book, “Team America: Patton, MacArthur, Marshall, Eisenhower, and the World They Forged” on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5:30 p.m., at their building located on VMI Parade Avenue on Virginia Military Institute post.

By the first half of the twentieth century, technology had transformed warfare into a series of intense bloodbaths in which the line between soldiers and civilians was obliterated, resulting in the deaths of one hundred million people. During this period, four men exhibited unparalleled military leadership that led the United States victoriously through two World Wars: Douglas MacArthur, George Patton, George Marshall, and Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower; or as O’Connell calls them, “Team America.”

O’Connell holds a doctorate degree in history from the University of Virginia. He worked for 30 years as an analyst in the U.S. intelligence community, followed by twelve years teaching at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is the author of nine published books, including two national bestsellers, “The Ghosts of Cannae” and “Fierce Patriot.” He lives with his wife Benjie in Charlottesville, Virginia.

A reception and book signing will follow the lecture. Copies of the book will be available to purchase for $23.99. The event is free to supporters of the Marshall Foundation at the $75 level or higher, all others pay $15 at the door. Reservations are required. For more information or to make a reservation, email events@marshallfoundation.org or call 540-463-7103 ext. 138.
