VMI English Professor to Speak on ‘With Good Reason’

LEXINGTON, Va., Sept. 3, 2021—Lt. Col. Pennie Ticen, associate professor of English at Virginia Military Institute, will discuss the sometimes controversial British-American author Salman Rushdie on public radio’s With Good Reason Sept. 4-10, in an episode titled “Reading and Writing Ourselves.”
 
On the show, Ticen will talk about Rushdie’s past and the new kind of writing he’s publishing as an American immigrant.
 
In Lexington, the show will air Sunday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. on WMRA 89.9 FM. In Charlottesville, it can be heard at the same times on WMRA 103.5 FM, and also at 2 p.m. Sunday on Radio IQ 88.5 FM. In Harrisonburg, With Good Reason will air Sunday, Sept. 5, at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. on WMRA 90.7 FM.
 
In addition to Ticen, others heard on this show will be Joceyln Johnson, author of “My Monticello,” a fictional account of Charlottesville residents fleeing to Thomas Jefferson’s home to escape racially motivated violence. Also, Kim Gainer of Radford University will discuss the theme of adoption in children’s literature.
