Update on Parents Weekend and Post Visitation

LEXINGTON, Va., Aug. 14, 2020—The ongoing pandemic has necessitated changes to every aspect of VMI’s operations this fall. These changes have been made in order to protect the health and well-being of our cadets, faculty, and staff while preserving the in-person, academic and military mission of the Institute. VMI officials continue a systematic review of each of the events held on post each year to determine their feasibility within this COVID-19 environment.

Unfortunately, it has become necessary to cancel the Parents Weekend activities originally scheduled for Oct. 2 – 4, 2020. Additionally, in order to limit the outside exposure to COVID-19, we are asking parents, family, and friends to refrain from visiting their cadets except to those visits that are absolutely necessary. Cadet medical needs can be coordinated through the Post Infirmary while family matters should be worked through the Chaplain’s office.

VMI continues to work closely with the Virginia Department of Health officials in the Shenandoah Valley region. As conditions permit, restrictions on visitation will be eased or lifted accordingly.

The support of parents, family, and friends is vital to the success of each cadet. This pandemic requires sacrifices of everyone individually and as a community. VMI appreciates your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges.
