Lt. Col. Mary “Polly” Stewart Atwell, associate professor, and Maj. Henry A. Wise III ’05, assistant professor, both in the Department of English, Rhetoric, and Humanistic Studies at Virginia Military Institute, have secured book deals.

It wasn’t long ago that Brooks Freeman was on a life path shared by many members of his generation: a college dropout working in a manual labor job with little room for advancement, unsure of where life would take him next.

If anyone knows balance, it’s Andrew Granger ’24. Not just with academics and cadet life, but within his event for track and field.  

Dr. Anne E. Proctor, associate dean for the School of Humanities, Arts, and Education at Roger Williams University (RWU) in Bristol, Rhode Island, will present “Dearly Beloved? Michelangelo’s Funeral and the First Arts Academy in Europe,” at VMI Thurs., Sept. 28 at 7:45 p.m.

Caitria Catania ’24 has been studying Spanish for eight years, but after taking a Spanish literature class with Col. John Cerkey this past spring, her love of analyzing Spanish poets grew.

Members of the VMI community continue to expand academic opportunity and impact across various fields of study. Recent activities include honor society inductions, ethics bowl competition, and collaborations in cyber research.

Lt. Col. Julie Phillips Brown, associate professor in the at Virginia Military Institute, will discuss themes of biology, mythology, and motherhood in her poetry on the public radio program, With Good Reason, April 8 - 14.

Two alumni speakers spoke of their love of teaching for Virginia Military Institute’s Department of English, Rhetoric, and Humanistic Studies (ERHS) Alumni Forum, “Finding a Calling” held Feb. 20 in Scott Shipp Hall.

Kaylee Brennan ’23, an English major at Virginia Military Institute, did independent field work to create a guide for cadets who plan on attending law school after they graduate. It's to be used as a resource for cadets on how to prepare and apply to law school.
