Department of Human Performance and Wellness: Faculty Position

The Department of Human Performance and Wellness at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) invites applications for a non-tenure track teaching position at the instructor level commencing 1 August 2024. This is a 3-year position with the possibility of extending beyond the initial 3 years. The selected candidate will have a teaching load of 15 contact hours per week.

The selected candidate will teach a variety of skill and classroom courses in support of the general (seven-semester) departmental program requirement for all cadets. Experience with combative-related activities (boxing, wrestling, karate, and Jiu Jitsu) is desired. The Department of Human Performance and Wellness is a non-degree granting service-oriented program. 

This position requires in-person teaching.

VMI is a public, four-year undergraduate military college (1,700 students) located in historic Lexington, Virginia. The Institute is dedicated to producing graduates prepared for the varied work of civil life, imbued with a love of learning, confident in the functions and attitudes of leadership, and possessing a high sense of public service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements for the position include a Master’s degree (minimum) in Physical Education, or a related Exercise Science field, with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.

A background check is required of selected candidate. Faculty wear uniforms, but no prior military experience is required. VMI will supply the selected candidate with the military uniform and the departmental teaching uniform.
