Assessment and Institutional Research
The mission of the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research is to promote a culture of continuous improvement at VMI by providing evidence-based information for the purposes of decision making, planning, and resource allocation. Through sound assessment and evaluation practices involving an array of constituencies across Post, we disseminate actionable information designed to improve operations that affect student learning, both directly (e.g., classroom pedagogy) and indirectly (e.g., campus climate).
Objectives:
- To collect, maintain, analyze, and disseminate reliable institutional data in order to meet reporting obligations to government (e.g., IPEDS & SCHEV), accrediting (e.g., SACSCOC), and other external agencies.
- To maintain a comprehensive, Institute-level survey research program that yields useful, actionable information for each of the Institute’s major programs and units within those programs.
- To assist Institute faculty, administrators, and staff in their assessment and evaluation endeavors.
